Privacy Compliance Educator
Susan Foster is the recently hired Privacy Compliance Educator in the HIPAA Privacy Office. Prior to coming to Washington University, she was a program director of a master’s program at Stephens College. She has degrees in health information administration, an MBA and in 2019 graduated from Lindenwood University with a doctorate in education. She has more than 27 years of experience as a health information professional and HIPAA privacy and security specialist for CoxHealth Systems and Mercy Clinic Springfield as well as over 10 years as a professor in higher education. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) and most recently certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC). She is an active member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Health Information Management Association (MoHIMA). She is a member of the AHIMA Foundation Research Network (AFRN) and has co-authored research articles with her most recently published research on Patient clinical documentation in telehealth environment: Are we collecting appropriate and sufficient information for best practices? She is an advocate of lifelong learning and “doing the right thing first”.
