Farshid Guilak, PhD
Mildred B. Simon Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
Dr. Guilak is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Developmental Biology, Biomedical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science at Washington University. His is also the Director of Research for the St. Louis Shriners Hospitals for Children and co-director of the WU Center of Regenerative Medicine. His laboratory pursues an interdisciplinary approach to the study of arthritis and other joint diseases, focusing on the development of new molecular and cell-based therapies. His laboratory consists of approximately 30 trainees and staff. He has received three separate mentoring awards, including the Inaugural Postdoctoral Mentor Award, the Mentoring Award from the Graduate School, and the Best Research Mentor Award (from Duke University). He has authored over 345 peer-reviewed journal articles, 46 book chapters, and co-edited four books. Dr. Guilak is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Biomechanics, Associate editor for Osteoarthritis & Cartilage, and serves on numerous other journal editorial boards. He is also the Founder and President of Cytex Therapeutics, a startup company focusing on developing new regenerative medicine therapies for musculoskeletal conditions.
